Devendra Banhart este recunoscut acum ca fiind unul dintre reprezentanţii acestui curent.

Termenul exista din 2003 de când David Keenan l-a introdus într-un număr al revistei The Wire, descriind o combinaţie fericită de mai multe stiluri printre care Folk, Psychedelic-Rock, Blues şi Gospel.

Un astfel de termen apare atunci când mai multe trupe care se aseamănă, nu mai sunt uşor de încadrat într-un curent existent deja. Putem astfel asocia trupe ca CocoRosie, Animal Collective, Antony and the Johnsons şi chiar Modest Mouse.
Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon cel mai recent material semnat Devendra Banhart are rădăcini în experienţa de viaţa a artistului care a crescut în Caracas, Venezuela (Cristobal, Samba Vexillographica, Carmensita), are influenţe Psychedelic-Rock din anii ’ 70 (Sea Horse) sau Rock’n’Roll (Shabop Shalom, Lover).
Versurile nu sunt de fiecare dată coerente, dar încetezi să te gândeşti la asta încă de la primele note muzicale.
